Abstract

The chapter starts by showing how, from Articles 12 and 24 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and Articles 12 and 25 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, we can derive a fundamental right of disabled children to be involved in health guidelines development. It then analyses the barriers disabled children face in exercising this right, drawing on projects and empirical studies from the Netherlands and the UK. Finally, it brings together human rights and empirical insights to identify the necessary steps to enhance disabled children’s participation in the development of health guidelines.
