Abstract

Since the academic year 2021-22, a project has been underway to innovate assessment in History
Individual Study Project modules at Keele. This includes a second-year dissertation preparation
module, and the final-year dissertation. In the context of sustained, sector-wide focus on graduate
prospects, employability, and digital education, students taking History ISPs at Levels 5 and 6 can
now choose between completing the ‘traditional’, extended piece of writing, or undertaking a project in
which they will populate a website to present their research to a public audience, accompanied by a
reflective piece on this process. This article explains the motivations for this modification, highlights
concerns surrounding this innovation, and describes the process of the development of these new
modules
