Abstract

Neoliberalism and globalization have supercharged the conditions in which extremism can thrive and spread easily across continents. Based on local anxieties about the loss of identity, and culture coupled with being left behind in an uncertain world will continue to feed extremism around the world. Globalization allows the local and global to easily interact sharing ideologies, strategies, and financing. The malaise that accompanies neoliberalism and globalization is not inevitable as these are the result of continued policy choices by the polity to enrich a small section of society, rather than acting for the benefit of all.
