Abstract

Nannoplankton bioevents from the Miocene-Pleistocene successions in Nile Delta and southeastern Mediterranean are used to construct a biochronological scheme with time scale. One hundred seventy-six bioevents were collected from nine wells distributed over the different petroleum fields in the Nile Delta. These wells are NDOB-1, Baltim 1 ×, TWN-7, TWN-5, Wakar-1, Wakar-2, Abu Zakin-1 ×, Kersh-1 and Port Fouad-5. The nannoplankton bioevents are processed by using ranking and scaling method through the software (RASCW-20). The application is used to rank and scale bioevents and to build generalized biozonation from all wells avoiding selection of marker bioevents. Only Forty-four out of fifty-nine bioevents are used in the RASC cut-off and displayed in the optimum sequence. The depth scaled optimum sequence is used to determine the formal biozones and time scale. The application is followed by the sister method of correlation (CASC) to determine the isochrones surfaces and correlation lines within the basin. A brief description of the stage boundaries is presented with stratigraphic sequences in Nile Delta. The suggested biozonation increase the importance of the nannoplanktons in the subsurface survey and correlation and can be used as a core for further improvements in the future.
