Abstract

Marcelle K. BouDagher-Fadel, a prominent marine paleontologist, dedicated over 40 years to academic excellence at University College London. Her unparalleled expertise in foraminifera reshaped our paleontological and geological understanding of significant bio- and geodynamic processes. Marcelle's rare skills in microanalysis unveiled fossil foraminifera species, spanning from the Holocene to Carboniferous, fostering global collaborations. With a legacy of more than 200 scientific contributions, including two seminal open-access monographs, she influenced the field of foraminiferal research profoundly. Her work encompassed diverse realms, from decoding the Himalayan orogeny's timing to studying the impacts of the Atlantic opening on marine species—from Phoenician port archaeology to the effects of the Suez Canal on Eastern Mediterranean fauna. Marcelle's academic journey, commencing in Lebanon and culminating in a Professorial Research Associate role at University College London, showcased her perseverance. Overcoming personal challenges, she thrived through a Royal Society Daphne Jackson Fellowship, eventually becoming a prominent figure in the field. Tragically, she passed away on 30 June 2022, leaving a global legacy of cherished connections enriched by her warmth and charisma. This contribution provides a brief overview of her life and presents a list of her major publications.
