Abstract
The application of stable isotopes in stratigraphic studies is here demonstrated with selected sedimentary Brazilian sections from the Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic. In those different age-case we present the application of δ13Corg and carb, δ15Ntotal and δ18Ocarb stable isotopes showing how past global events and environmental conditions variation can imprint characteristic isotopic signatures in sedimentary rocks profiles and how they can be useful in stratigraphic studies. Also, key points for the interpretation of stable isotope data derived from sedimentary organic matter and carbonates are discussed demonstrating how bulk-rocks analyses can be really useful for stratigraphic correlations and paleoenvironmental interpretations when a high-resolution interpretation is conducted.
