Abstract
The 2022 Autumn Statement is Rishi Sunak’s first real opportunity to showcase his plans as Prime Minister.
In recent weeks, UK media outlets have carried rumours of fiscal “black holes”, savage spending cuts and dramatic tax rises. Much of this may prove to be expectation management on the part of government, setting the bar low so that Thursday’s announcements look good by comparison.
So, what should we look out for when Chancellor Jeremy Hunt steps up to the dispatch box on Thursday?
