Abstract

With the rise of academic mobility and transnational research engagement, many scholars reside outside their countries of origin yet remain deeply connected to them through their scholarly work. This viewpoint introduces the concept of the diaspora theoretical contributor-a scholar who, while based abroad, continues to generate knowledge about their homeland. Drawing on the idea of intellectual remittances, the viewpoint reflects on how these contributions challenge traditional narratives of knowledge production, often thought to flow from the Global North to the Global South. It explores the motivations behind such research, the ethical and methodological implications, and the opportunities for enhancing representation, impact, and reflexivity in business and management scholarship. By highlighting this form of academic engagement, the viewpoint invites scholars to consider how positionality influences their work and encourages dialogue around inclusive and context-sensitive research practices.
