Abstract
The first synthesis of the inositol-containing marine glycolipid dioctadecanoyl discoside is reported. The key glycosylation reaction proceeds with ß-selectivity at reduced temperature. The separable anomers could be readily progressed to afford discoside, its peracetate and the unnatural ß-derivatives.
