Combinations of bleeding and ischemic risk and their association with clinical outcomes in acute coronary syndrome.

Abstract
Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) are an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Current guidelines recommend early management with potent antiplatelet agents and an early invasive coronary intervention strategy for both non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The mainstay of pharmacologic treatment for ACS is the use of potent antithrombotic therapy to minimize the risk for further ischemic events, which comes at an expense of an increased risk of bleeding complications that are associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality.
