Internationalisation, crisis and sustainability: opportunities to reinforce corporate social responsibility strategies

Abstract

There are many factors influencing companies’ decisions about the adoption of corporate social responsibility strategies. International competition is one of them, and those strategies can contribute to improve business results. But the crisis can affect those activities, which require a long-term vision, and it can reduce resources assigned to social or environmental protection programmes. In this paper, we will analyse the influence that crisis and international competition have over CSR strategies, using examples of particular sectors. We will try to establish if these strategies are being neglected, and in that case, if it is necessary to promote them.
