Business Schools Accreditations and Awards as indicators of commitment to sustainability

Fernandez Martin, Rosa Maria

Authors

Abstract

The pressure on business schools to survive in a highly competitive and commodified environment has driven attempts to gain international recognition through engaging on accreditation exercises by renowned organisations. While these accreditations may be used by some (or many) as an indicator of institutional or programme quality, it is debatable that they can be used to signal if business schools are truly committed to embedding sustainability in their curriculum and overall activities. This chapter argues that other schemes, initiatives, and awards can be better indicators of commitment to sustainability and responsible management education, and this itself suggests the need for improvement of existing sustainability rankings and indicators in general.
